Rev. Dr. Anne-Marie Hislop became our interim pastor in October, 2011.  Following a career in nursing, Ann-Marie received a Master of Divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 2000, where she also received awards for “imagination in preaching” and for “academic excellence.”  In  2008, she received a Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary.  Heritage is her third call as a Presbyterian pastor.

In her own words, “From childhood when I was an artsy-craftsy kid, I have enjoyed art. Although I have not done much recently, I have dabbled in pastels, watercolor, and graphite. This love of art also led me to volunteer at the Art Institute where during the 1990s I led monthly trainings for information desk volunteers.  I also love good conversation with friends, am an avid walker, swimmer, reader, and baker. I enjoy travel.”

“As a Presbyterian pastor, I believe that it is important for the church to keep Jesus Christ always at the center of all that we do. I envision the lives of all of the faithful as flowing from church to community/world and back again. In the church we worship, study, pray, are nurtured in our faith, supported in our ministry, and receive sustenance for our journey. Then refreshed and renewed, we move out into the community to engage in God’s mission in the world. “

“I am also a strong believer that all Christians are in ministry together. While pastors are set apart for certain functions in the church, God calls each one of us to use our God-given gifts and skills in the carrying out of God’s mission in the world. Ministry is always relational and shared. My faith is important to me, but it is not necessarily any stronger than the faith of those with whom I serve.  All have strengths and growing edges; all sin and fall short of the glory of God; all have things to teach and things to learn. We are, as the Apostle Paul writes, one body where all are needed and all are equal and equally loved in the eyes of God.”
