Heritage Missions and Outreach
Heritage offers many opportunities to reach out to our community, to the world and to our fellow worshipers. Here are just a few examples of Heritage mission activities:
PADS
Each month from September through May, our members provide food and serve the homeless at the DuPage County PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter).
Food Pantry
Our deacons maintain a small food pantry to provide emergency assistance to the needy who come to our church for help.
Outreach Community Center
Heritage partners with and supports the OCC, which provides social services to families in the southeast portion of Carol Stream.
Compassion Kids
The children of the church raise money to support a Haitian boy through a program sponsored by Compassion International.
Computer Resource Center
The Heritage CRC is available to our members, visitors and neighbors who need access to a computer. Instruction on basic computer skills, internet use, word processing and job searching methods is available upon request.
Christmas Stockings
Each year, the women's group sponsors a project to sew and fill 10 Christmas stockings that are donated to needy children in the community.
Neighborhood Festival
Heritage sponsors a food and fun festival each year for residents of a neighboring apartment complex.
Mitten Tree
Each December, our members hang mittens, scarves and hats on a tree in the church, which are then given to needy members of the community.
CROP Walk
Heritage participates in the annual CROP Walk to raise money to fight hunger throughout the world.
Bowling Fund Raiser
The men's group sponsors an annual bowling night to generate funds to support an orphanage in Europe.
Easter Bags
Each year, the women's group sponsors a project to create Easter bags fiilled with toiletries and other items for girls residing at the Warrenville Juvenile Correction Center.
"Books to You"
Heritage serves as host to the Books to You program, which is a reading program run by the Carol Stream school district.
Support for our Troops Overseas
Our membership donates snack items, personal care products and magazine to members of our Armed Forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mexicali Mission Trip
Our pastor and several members join two other area churches on an annual mission trip to Mexico to engage in worship, work projects and cultural exchange.
Support to Members in Need
The deacons prepare meals and provide other support to our members during transitional times such as births, surgery, illness or deaths. The men's group "handyman" program assists members who are faced with household tasks that they cannot perform alone.
